As we are notified by any given state of requirements specific to us, we are updating the list below. Of course you should always check with your state of destination before shipping to be be sure you have the latest and best information. We have compiled contact information on all 50 states to assist you in that.

Feeder Cattle Import Requirements
  1. All feeder cattle imports shall have a current Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) and obtain an entry permit number prior to entering Colorado.
  2. All feeder cattle shall be individually identified prior to movement with an ear tag that denotes state of origin. The ear tag may be an official USDA metal ear tag (bright tag or OCV ear tag), official NAIS electronic or visual identification, or any other individual animal identification method approved by the State Veterinarian.
  3. All beef feeder cattle less than 8 months of age may import to Colorado without a negative TB test providing:
    1. They originate from a premises with a NAIS Premises Identification Number (PIN) and are individually identified with an official USDA metal ear tag (bright tag or OCV ear tag), official NAIS electronic or visual identification ear tag, or any other individual animal identification method approved by the State Veterinarian.
    2. The cattle originate from one premises and are identified by the state animal health official in the state of origin as not being geographically or epidemiologically linked to tuberculosis exposed cattle.
  4. All beef feeder cattle 8 months of age and older may import into Colorado providing:
    1. They are caudal fold TB test negative within 60 days prior of import; OR
    2. They import to a Colorado Import Approved Feedlot; OR
    3. They are from a Accredited TB free herd with the TB accredited herd number listed on the CVI or qualified TB free herd that has completed a whole herd caudal fold TB test on all cattle 12 months of age and older within the last 12 months
  5. All dairy or dairy cross feeder cattle 2 months of age or older not imported to a Colorado Import Approved Feedlot shall originate from a TB accredited herd with the TB accredited herd number indicated on the CVI or TB qualified herd with the date of the last whole herd TB test indicated on the CVI or be TB test negative to two consecutive caudal fold tests within 60 days prior to import.
  6. No feeder cattle may enter Colorado from a quarantined herd or that are trace forward or traceback cattle from quarantined herds unless the meet all testing requirements from the state of origin, including repeated consecutive whole herd negative TB tests and approval of the Colorado state veterinarian.

Colorado Beef Breeding Cattle Import Requirements:

  1. All beef breeding cattle imports shall have a current Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) and obtain an entry permit number prior to entering Colorado.
  2. All beef breeding cattle over 6 months of age shall be caudal ford TB test negative within 60 days prior to import or originate from a TB accredited herd with the TB accredited herd number indicated on the CVI or TB qualified herd with the date of the last whole herd TB test indicated on the CVI.
  3. All beef breeding cattle shall be individually identified prior to movement with an ear tag that denotes state of origin. The ear tag may be an official USDA metal ear tag (bright tag or OCV ear tag), official NAIS electronic or visual identification, or any other individual animal identification method approved by the State Veterinarian.
  4. No beef breeding cattle may enter Colorado from a quarantined herd or that are trace forward or trace back cattle from quarantined herds unless the meet all testing requirements from the state of origin including repeated consecutive whole herd negative TB tests and approval of the Colorado state veterinarian.

Colorado Dairy Breeding Cattle Import Requirements:

  1. All dairy breeding cattle imports shall have a current Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) and obtain an entry permit number prior to entering Colorado.
  2. All dairy breeding cattle over 2 months of age shall originate from a TB accredited herd with the accredited herd number indicated on the CVI, or TB qualified herd with the date of the last whole herd TB test indicated on the CVI, and an individual animal negative TB caudal fold test within 60 days of import.
  3. All dairy breeding cattle under 2 months of age shall originate from a TB accredited herd with the accredited herd number indicated on the CVI, or TB qualified herd withy the date of the last whole herd TB test indicated on the CVI, and shall then be quarantined and isolated at the Colorado premises of destination and caudal fold TB tested when older than 2 months.
  4. All dairy breeding cattle shall be individually identified prior to movement with an ear tag that denotes the state of origin. The ear tag may be an official USDA metal ear tag (bright tag or OCV ar tag), official NAIS electronic or visual identification tag, or any other individual animal identification method approved by the CO State Veterinarian.
